Second Opinions
If you have been told your child is not eligible for circumcision due to their body weight, size, proportions, or other reasons, our team is happy to offer a second opinion.
Because baby circumcision is not a medical necessity, an approach that prioritizes safety is extremely important.
Variations in ordinary anatomy can increase the risks of circumcision, or lead to a cosmetic result that may be different than expected. Some circumcision providers are not comfortable taking on patients in these scenarios. They might only accept patients that have a long shaft and little fat at the base of the penis. This is because the healing is predictably straight forward.
If you have been told your child is not eligible for circumcision due to their body weight, size, proportions, or other reasons, our team is happy to offer a second opinion.
Our team is comfortable offering circumcision up until the baby is six months old - after a detailed discussion.
Our experience with these situations has shown that there are some circumstances where a more detailed discussion about the risks (which might include a need for the parents to do regular retractions or apply a steroid cream or Vaseline for an extended period) or providing a more detailed explanation about how the cosmetic result will evolve over time, has allowed families the opportunity to choose to move ahead - avoiding the need for general anesthesia or a long and expensive delay in accessing circumcision at an older age.
If our doctors feel that the surgery would not be safe, we are transparent and will decline to offer the procedure.
If you come to The Circumcision Clinic for a second opinion, and after a detailed discussion, either you or your doctor are not comfortable moving forward, there will be no charge for the appointment. There is no financial pressure to move forward.
